The changes to the curriculum for geriatric medicine are coming and we are preparing for them with a BGS webinar. Join us as we discuss the new changes, what they will mean for trainees, and how this will affect you as a trainer. This webinar will also cover some of the recent changes to the curriculum for geriatrics and the upcoming challenges for the future of this field. After all, what's new today isn't always the best for the future.
The meeting took place on the eve of the UEMS Congress, which is taking place in Nice this November. It was attended by medical students, physicians, and nurses. The European Training Requirements for Geriatrics were also discussed. In addition, a new specialty title for geriatrics was announced in France. Both sections are preparing for the next step. In the meantime, this meeting is a great opportunity to advance the field of geriatric medicine.
AGS and the Geriatric Medicine Board discussed the progress of the longitudinal assessment pathway for geriatrics. The board members were especially interested in the scoring for the exam. They hope to create a system that integrates education and assessment more seamlessly, with a pass/fail decision at the end of a five-year cycle. The board also continued discussions on training and workplace issues. The ABIM hopes to release the updated curriculum in 2022.

A number of healthcare professionals are key decision makers in the aging process, and understanding frailty is a key aspect of the field. While there are many unintended consequences of aging, we can still make life better for the elderly. With the right education, we can avoid cognitive impairment and prepare for a healthier future. And by participating in a UEMS-accredited program, you'll be well on your way to a brighter future.
While Geriatric Medicine is age-neutral, it is a field of medicine that focuses on the physical, mental, functional, and social conditions of the elderly. As a result, geriatric medicine requires a multidisciplinary team approach. Diseases and conditions in old age present themselves differently, making them difficult to diagnose and treat. As such, the scope of Geriatric Medicine is vast and varies across European Member Countries.
